Simplicity Pattern</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This pattern makes a small backpack. It is 14" H X 11" W X 4" D. It was the perfect size for the feed bag.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Side One Side Two</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I didn't take a picture of the inside, but it is lined with green nylon fabric. The zipper is a two-way zipper.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The bag is interfaced with a stiff interfacing to give good support to the plastic woven feed bag. A press cloth was put over the interfacing when ironing. If the feed bag got to hot it would melt. I did a lot of practicing applying interfacing to the scraps. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is the hardest project I have ever sewn. The feed bag has no stretch in any direction. The curves were the hardest. The lining fabric wanted to stretch around the curves, but I couldn't allow it to.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I would have liked the finished product to have been bigger since it was for an adult, but the feed bag didn't allow it since there were holes and flaws to work around. And probably a little to picky about how the pictures were placed on the bag.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ultimately it was a successful project.</div>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEaSnOa2v-M/WCukFFn9DRI/AAAAAAAADeI/gWLrTJlTfcMb16LfaUYFhIwf7rRDJ3lSwCLcB/s1600/20141010_164433.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EEaSnOa2v-M/WCukFFn9DRI/AAAAAAAADeI/gWLrTJlTfcMb16LfaUYFhIwf7rRDJ3lSwCLcB/s320/20141010_164433.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I don't remember where I got this nightgown, but I don't like slinky nightgowns. I do love animal prints so I decided to turn this into a slip.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zNrsWsZmUEk/WCukHQk5XPI/AAAAAAAADeM/d_85n85VwaorqsS2br6bPGkbs363pKMmwCEw/s1600/20141010_164709.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zNrsWsZmUEk/WCukHQk5XPI/AAAAAAAADeM/d_85n85VwaorqsS2br6bPGkbs363pKMmwCEw/s320/20141010_164709.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I folded it in half lengthwise and measured from the bottom up each side the length that I wanted the slip to be and the fabric would allow. I placed a pin at each spot. Then I used my ruler and rotary cutter to cut of the top of the nightgown at the pin markings.<br />
I made a casing at the top to fit 1/4 inch elastic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1C977zCVVEI/WCukN2MSvXI/AAAAAAAADeU/6z_9Gs8u_yEkhWKlJUGakKViQ9p81nXSwCEw/s1600/20141029_173201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1C977zCVVEI/WCukN2MSvXI/AAAAAAAADeU/6z_9Gs8u_yEkhWKlJUGakKViQ9p81nXSwCEw/s320/20141029_173201.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
The finished product.<br /><br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3EyGtXfPkh8/WCuWMN_IlpI/AAAAAAAADc4/C4lJzeqswGQJpfD8PZnVsPmA7W10W9BNwCLcB/s320/20161115_150808-1.jpg" width="206" /> <a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-APUptRkGPvU/WCuWPUcxV6I/AAAAAAAADc8/bJG3hYHrU88idkkDhpvXIQyPrbmUjwiWQCLcB/s1600/20161115_144532-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-APUptRkGPvU/WCuWPUcxV6I/AAAAAAAADc8/bJG3hYHrU88idkkDhpvXIQyPrbmUjwiWQCLcB/s320/20161115_144532-1.jpg" width="221" /></a></div>
This skirt is 3 tiers. Two pair of jeans are used for each tier. I wanted the top tier to be the darkest and each tier to become lighter as they went down. I forgot to get a picture before I cut up the jeans, but I had enough leftover to take a picture with. The center 2 pairs of jeans are the same brand and same color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MZii_0CXN1Y/WCuZRA8gwEI/AAAAAAAADdU/2AjVoeNGYBgkyl5BNDwAWlq5s9xFk3INwCLcB/s1600/20161004_143225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MZii_0CXN1Y/WCuZRA8gwEI/AAAAAAAADdU/2AjVoeNGYBgkyl5BNDwAWlq5s9xFk3INwCLcB/s320/20161004_143225.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
First I cut off the hem of the pants for another project. Then I opened up each pant leg by cutting along the inside leg seam.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E_lwCInU2mU/WCuZVL7Ek_I/AAAAAAAADdY/jrWA9MrLLOIkNDwSH07ktMWOtqt9oUm7wCLcB/s1600/20161004_140517.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E_lwCInU2mU/WCuZVL7Ek_I/AAAAAAAADdY/jrWA9MrLLOIkNDwSH07ktMWOtqt9oUm7wCLcB/s320/20161004_140517.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I put the straight of grain line of the pattern on the grain line of the pant leg.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dNvIIPI6pWE/WCuY644rwTI/AAAAAAAADdQ/7Qs0w8rB79Ei68bRXSdx8PiMUwonReu-QCEw/s1600/20161004_160525.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dNvIIPI6pWE/WCuY644rwTI/AAAAAAAADdQ/7Qs0w8rB79Ei68bRXSdx8PiMUwonReu-QCEw/s320/20161004_160525.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the top tier. Find the part of the jeans that you like the coloring best and place the pattern on that spot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Trs2EdrlSNE/WCubgQhcq9I/AAAAAAAADdo/Jm5KuAg5jtww1fzjGlTNduB4UbkxyoyJQCLcB/s1600/20161004_140820.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Trs2EdrlSNE/WCubgQhcq9I/AAAAAAAADdo/Jm5KuAg5jtww1fzjGlTNduB4UbkxyoyJQCLcB/s320/20161004_140820.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Tier two was harder to place. I had to put it where it would fit and still be on the straight of grain. You can see that I had to put the edges into the seam allowance. The top left portion of the pattern was in the seam allowance too. I cut the pattern out first and then picked of the little extra piece from the front of the jeans. Several of my center pieces have the side seam in the middle tier pieces. There just wasn't enough material to cut it out otherwise.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aVFqEp7fRB0/WCucRWwfNFI/AAAAAAAADds/2iaK7DP5-1MyuMbdvCqJo21b75toPSyMQCLcB/s1600/20161004_121522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aVFqEp7fRB0/WCucRWwfNFI/AAAAAAAADds/2iaK7DP5-1MyuMbdvCqJo21b75toPSyMQCLcB/s320/20161004_121522.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The bottom tier was the easiest since the pieces were small. I could have cut out all nine pieces from one pair of jeans, but I wanted the two shades of blue in the bottom like the top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XNX2JAEeVjM/WCuc-OsizaI/AAAAAAAADd0/MxaCrZrrVpAyGnPCZAU8CllgLPrk-RixwCLcB/s1600/20161005_171746.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XNX2JAEeVjM/WCuc-OsizaI/AAAAAAAADd0/MxaCrZrrVpAyGnPCZAU8CllgLPrk-RixwCLcB/s320/20161005_171746.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This skirt has nine pieces to each tier. I chose to cut six pieces from one pair of jeans and three from the other pair for each tier. <br />
<br />
NOTE: The lengthwise seams are all serged. They unraveled quickly while making the skirt. The crosswise seams are not serged. They didn't ravel.<br />
<br />
NOTE: My skirt is a size large and I found that the larger the jeans the better. More room to work around stains and holes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-irbFxv9nPpk/WDJNmLxPkPI/AAAAAAAADhE/K4RnvSql7dYKgABh8_OULnEcYnr0pt0JgCLcB/s1600/20161120_083659.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-irbFxv9nPpk/WDJNmLxPkPI/AAAAAAAADhE/K4RnvSql7dYKgABh8_OULnEcYnr0pt0JgCLcB/s320/20161120_083659.jpg" width="209" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K9FhEHGjvuQ/WAlcpQaRiYI/AAAAAAAADZM/D8N3lfL9NiEQ6RehPsWeC74BhoXqQ1eMwCLcB/s1600/20161005_174150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K9FhEHGjvuQ/WAlcpQaRiYI/AAAAAAAADZM/D8N3lfL9NiEQ6RehPsWeC74BhoXqQ1eMwCLcB/s320/20161005_174150.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
It is on top of the red t-shirt to show how much bigger it needs to become.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VYmLCtcwS6k/WAlc49UXhHI/AAAAAAAADZQ/jJIQkA1k6S0h7HBXcCz3Vbv0r1Gxys2xgCLcB/s1600/20161006_101120-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VYmLCtcwS6k/WAlc49UXhHI/AAAAAAAADZQ/jJIQkA1k6S0h7HBXcCz3Vbv0r1Gxys2xgCLcB/s320/20161006_101120-1.jpg" width="255" /></a></div>
I got the black t-shirt and the orange knit dress from the clothing fair also. These are the items I used to remake the Halloween t-shirt. I took the Halloween t-shirt apart before I remembered to take a picture of it with the other clothing items.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rNPKGwPyCVY/WAlebfi2ahI/AAAAAAAADZc/kXRS7em4g9YQOVdLTOrUJeLY8CxXHtlcACEw/s1600/20161006_112240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rNPKGwPyCVY/WAlebfi2ahI/AAAAAAAADZc/kXRS7em4g9YQOVdLTOrUJeLY8CxXHtlcACEw/s320/20161006_112240.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
I pinned the sides of the white t-shirt together before cutting the black t-shirt strips. I cut strips from the side of the black t-shirt following the curve of
the white t-shirt on one side and straight on the other side. I didn't
measure the black strip. I just cut a strip that looked good to me and
used that strip as my pattern for the other strips.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rTboQucp5GM/WAldYlSYqNI/AAAAAAAADZU/JYEBBeLbw78H_ur2fq5oxEwe4IGJEhatgCLcB/s1600/20161006_124644-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rTboQucp5GM/WAldYlSYqNI/AAAAAAAADZU/JYEBBeLbw78H_ur2fq5oxEwe4IGJEhatgCLcB/s320/20161006_124644-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I sewed the black strips on and placed it on the red t-shirt again. It still needs to be a little larger.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X7q3Z0rIW6g/WAleFmQqSLI/AAAAAAAADZY/okrJrzABBQIpcsEBMneWJOSd_6bse23HACLcB/s1600/20161006_130055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X7q3Z0rIW6g/WAleFmQqSLI/AAAAAAAADZY/okrJrzABBQIpcsEBMneWJOSd_6bse23HACLcB/s320/20161006_130055.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I then cut an orange strip from the skirt of the knit dress about the same with as the black strip, but straight on both sides.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1pmDdd1eNeI/WAlj0T3JADI/AAAAAAAADZw/9xkLiYDHPr0MLT4I_IjA2mcdVqV1Bu6aACLcB/s1600/20161020_173322.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1pmDdd1eNeI/WAlj0T3JADI/AAAAAAAADZw/9xkLiYDHPr0MLT4I_IjA2mcdVqV1Bu6aACLcB/s320/20161020_173322.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The working picture of the shoulder part is missing so I turned the t-shirt inside out, tucked the sleeves in and took a picture. I used the white t-shirt shoulder line and cut from the black t-shirt the same way as I did the side pieces. The original piece of black fabric was about 3 inches wider and 2 inches longer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nQPISUTxj8M/WAllWjQ6xZI/AAAAAAAADZ0/dlKAyFzcGVI9AcUqCZNGJJeofJO6QvgWwCLcB/s1600/20161020_173449.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nQPISUTxj8M/WAllWjQ6xZI/AAAAAAAADZ0/dlKAyFzcGVI9AcUqCZNGJJeofJO6QvgWwCLcB/s320/20161020_173449.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I placed my favorite t-shirt pattern on top of the shirt and cut out the arm holes to match the pattern. Sorry it doesn't lie flat and look like it matches the pattern, but it really does.<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P3fdxnAoZBk/WAlf7gDVBOI/AAAAAAAADZk/FJoV5yy11eob1s_wtq8KqLWO5CPL_d3FQCLcB/s1600/20161008_151734-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P3fdxnAoZBk/WAlf7gDVBOI/AAAAAAAADZk/FJoV5yy11eob1s_wtq8KqLWO5CPL_d3FQCLcB/s320/20161008_151734-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I debated about adding strips to the top of the white sleeves or cutting new sleeves. It needed more fabric on the underarm too, so I decided to just make new orange sleeves using my favorite t-shirt pattern.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xYm3fBudWk4/WAll5XCv5ZI/AAAAAAAADZ4/kNzpWP0eeRMSZUlwro6YxiFH4RF54qaiwCLcB/s1600/20161020_172651.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xYm3fBudWk4/WAll5XCv5ZI/AAAAAAAADZ4/kNzpWP0eeRMSZUlwro6YxiFH4RF54qaiwCLcB/s320/20161020_172651.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Here is the final result.<br /><br />
Next time I will do the sleeve area first. It would have been easier to get the underarm curve cut and sewn.<br />

I bought a pattern and was very unhappy with it when I took the pieces out of the envelope. The backpack wasn't lined and didn't have all the pockets I thought it should have. It was to small also. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7mUAX93Od0o/Vqf76_AMZcI/AAAAAAAADVA/fT9yRNz5d0c/s1600/20151218_120233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7mUAX93Od0o/Vqf76_AMZcI/AAAAAAAADVA/fT9yRNz5d0c/s320/20151218_120233.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
I added two inches to the width. Four inches to the height and I don't even know how much to the depth. There was no zippered pocket on the front and the short front pocket had no extra fabric for anything with any thickness to fit without pushing into the space inside the backpack. No loop on top either. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z9MplwPd5CY/Vqf77OoCQII/AAAAAAAADU8/1wo1GYUhkTU/s1600/20151218_120240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z9MplwPd5CY/Vqf77OoCQII/AAAAAAAADU8/1wo1GYUhkTU/s320/20151218_120240.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Here is the side view. This backpack can hold a lot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tvtqrrWrOrI/Vqf78RJzC8I/AAAAAAAADVI/fgBd6q7HO-o/s1600/20151218_120350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tvtqrrWrOrI/Vqf78RJzC8I/AAAAAAAADVI/fgBd6q7HO-o/s320/20151218_120350.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Since I enlarged the backpack so much I decided that plain belting straps would never do. I decided to make padded straps to make a heavy load more comfortable to carry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0kB0e4EcsHY/Vqf7-ucCg7I/AAAAAAAADVU/rGwMcV2kv1Y/s1600/20151218_120449.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0kB0e4EcsHY/Vqf7-ucCg7I/AAAAAAAADVU/rGwMcV2kv1Y/s320/20151218_120449.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
I purposely made this difficult to see, but if you look closely you can see something orange in the backpack. I embroidered my grandson's full name in the lining.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xebFu4VzW6o/Vqf7_W6uklI/AAAAAAAADVg/KJNtKsjfjX4/s1600/20151218_120508.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xebFu4VzW6o/Vqf7_W6uklI/AAAAAAAADVg/KJNtKsjfjX4/s320/20151218_120508.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Not only did I embroider it once, his whole name is on both sides inside the backpack. His first name is on one side near the bottom and below each end of the zipper. No stealing this backpack and getting away with it.<br />
After all that he doesn't want to take it to school. He plans to use it for camping, traveling, and things like that.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7mUAX93Od0o/Vqf76_AMZcI/AAAAAAAADU4/D3uw9a2qf-w/s1600/20151218_120233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>

I bought the fleece at the Black Friday sale. I think the fleece was about $3.48 a yard. I can't remember for sure, but it was less then $4.00 a yard. I bought 1 yard of the main body fabric and 1/2 half yard of fin fabric.<br />
<br />
I see these bags on Pinterest and decided I could make my own pattern and make the bags out of fleece. Each bag is about 25 inches wide and 40 inches long.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-netIzTzkFBE/Vqf2vg_isbI/AAAAAAAADUg/6A1lFTkQwt8/s1600/20151215_115839.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-netIzTzkFBE/Vqf2vg_isbI/AAAAAAAADUg/6A1lFTkQwt8/s320/20151215_115839.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
This bag is pink. I put the scales on the front only. I liked it without the scales until I finished the shark bag. After comparing the two the mermaid bag looked plain and boring.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VGBrYJSzTVQ/Vqf2xPqaB0I/AAAAAAAADUo/BhdJyTqlHcY/s1600/20151215_120012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VGBrYJSzTVQ/Vqf2xPqaB0I/AAAAAAAADUo/BhdJyTqlHcY/s320/20151215_120012.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
1/4 of a yard each of red and white was plenty for the teeth and lips. These bags were fun, fast, and easy. Even the teeth were easy.Jenéhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12847148540218850908noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8151565630955097150.post-41098489019269707512016-01-06T15:33:00.001-08:002016-01-06T15:40:07.208-08:00Three Purple DressesI went to a local thrift store one day to see what fabric I could find and found this. About 3 1/2 yards of fabric. I see why they got rid of it too. See how the design ends on the picture on the right near the price tag. Well that is how it ends and begins down the center of the fabric without any raw edges finished or meeting together. Nothing can be placed on the center fold without looking terrible.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vAUABzrKNEM/VmYNUtYnzrI/AAAAAAAADQI/v4gZXBnvn_s/s1600/20150626_090602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vAUABzrKNEM/VmYNUtYnzrI/AAAAAAAADQI/v4gZXBnvn_s/s320/20150626_090602.jpg" width="180" /></a> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tnoccvwmmbQ/VmYNVcISASI/AAAAAAAADQQ/nOABGNe_owk/s1600/20150626_090608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tnoccvwmmbQ/VmYNVcISASI/AAAAAAAADQQ/nOABGNe_owk/s320/20150626_090608.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I got three little girl plain dress out of this fabric and could have gotten more if I could have used the center fold.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FqOhWbyzoZ8/VmYNX18O_II/AAAAAAAADQc/_Z3we4s0bG4/s1600/20150809_100446.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FqOhWbyzoZ8/VmYNX18O_II/AAAAAAAADQc/_Z3we4s0bG4/s320/20150809_100446.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
This is the pattern I used. The pattern was 99 cents and the zippers were on sale for about 1 dollar each and I had matching thread already so the three dress cost about $8 to make.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zLrZsVq4MSY/Vo2iWuVwfNI/AAAAAAAADRk/kfBRJ2HX5rA/s1600/20150916_175845.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zLrZsVq4MSY/Vo2iWuVwfNI/AAAAAAAADRk/kfBRJ2HX5rA/s320/20150916_175845.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The three little girls got together to try on their dresses and the youngest one wouldn't hold still for a picture. Of course the others had to be wild if the little one was being wild. Hubby got the girls dancing on the coffee table and got this picture. This is the best one any of us could get.<br />
The oldest one wants matching purses for each girl since there is plenty of fabric left. That probably won't happen. I don't think any of them have worn their dresses yet and they were made during the summer.<br />

I wanted to make a Princess Elsa dress for my granddaughter. She wasn't too happy about the fabric colors when I first came home with them. I kept telling her that it was a Princess Elsa "STYLE" dress then and that was better. I finally finished the dress yesterday and took it to her today and she loves it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sriQ81qpbJg/Vkkr84J-vBI/AAAAAAAADNM/oqYT3nWrDA0/s1600/20151115_165506.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sriQ81qpbJg/Vkkr84J-vBI/AAAAAAAADNM/oqYT3nWrDA0/s320/20151115_165506.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Here is the pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AXBbcGr95l0/VkksVTxzLkI/AAAAAAAADNg/HBYJdp1QnOA/s1600/20151115_114526.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AXBbcGr95l0/VkksVTxzLkI/AAAAAAAADNg/HBYJdp1QnOA/s320/20151115_114526.jpg" width="180" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p6mWIsouOVQ/VkksLumMaDI/AAAAAAAADNU/oYDZewEHVRc/s1600/20151115_114655.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-p6mWIsouOVQ/VkksLumMaDI/AAAAAAAADNU/oYDZewEHVRc/s320/20151115_114655.jpg" width="180" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here she is with her dress. Now she calls it her Princess Elsa dress. It is long, but she is happy to know that it will fit her for a long time and wants high-heals for now. </div>

Well Amber dresses are nowhere to be found, so I made one. Here it is.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jh7dLsx0LVc/VkkosL58QUI/AAAAAAAADMk/iJ9VoxRLbsw/s1600/Addies%2BAmber%2Bdress%2Bhalloween%2B2015.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jh7dLsx0LVc/VkkosL58QUI/AAAAAAAADMk/iJ9VoxRLbsw/s320/Addies%2BAmber%2Bdress%2Bhalloween%2B2015.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lTUnpKmNgio/VkkqK-tmoMI/AAAAAAAADMw/J4MloAM_3qY/s1600/20151115_165457.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lTUnpKmNgio/VkkqK-tmoMI/AAAAAAAADMw/J4MloAM_3qY/s320/20151115_165457.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I used these patterns to create the dress. The Snow White dress was the pattern I used without the sleeves. I used the sleeves from the Princess Elsa dress.<br />

It is from The Quilter magazine July 2005 page 20.<br />
This quilt is about 92" by 107" That is what the pattern says. I haven't actually measured mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V5c89T8XRZU/VY3IuRe-TCI/AAAAAAAAC4Q/ZWRROD2hXWA/s1600/20150626_142559.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V5c89T8XRZU/VY3IuRe-TCI/AAAAAAAAC4Q/ZWRROD2hXWA/s320/20150626_142559.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the finished quilt. It is a log cabin style with one half of the strips narrower than the other half. In my case it is the blue. I didn't want the blue to overpower the quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e86hrdPMgq8/VY3JTEXWJuI/AAAAAAAAC4Y/Ef9zebc_bN4/s1600/20150626_142755.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e86hrdPMgq8/VY3JTEXWJuI/AAAAAAAAC4Y/Ef9zebc_bN4/s320/20150626_142755.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is a sample of the binding. I used strips from all of the fabric on the front of the quilt to make the binding. I also cut the binding strips different lengths. That made it easier to use scraps and make the strips at the end piece together nicely.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lu7KRI0RbFo/VY3J_3ctS1I/AAAAAAAAC4w/rP3L3Fzii20/s1600/20150626_143333.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lu7KRI0RbFo/VY3J_3ctS1I/AAAAAAAAC4w/rP3L3Fzii20/s320/20150626_143333.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is a picture of what each square looks like.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BihQtN4j7lc/VY3J7GzRrfI/AAAAAAAAC4s/PEP8qmg0lCw/s1600/20150626_143300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BihQtN4j7lc/VY3J7GzRrfI/AAAAAAAAC4s/PEP8qmg0lCw/s320/20150626_143300.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here you can see how each square is turned a different direction, which makes the overall zig-zag design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NMxVa2AeL2g/VY3J8j9i-dI/AAAAAAAAC4k/r0DKh95fPoM/s1600/20150626_142829.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NMxVa2AeL2g/VY3J8j9i-dI/AAAAAAAAC4k/r0DKh95fPoM/s320/20150626_142829.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Can you see the seam halfway between the binding and the bottom of the picture. If not then I am glad. That seam caused me to name the quilt Sunflowers from Hell while I was quilting it.<br />
I quilted this quilt on my mom's quilting machine. I carefully quilted the sunflower border to make it look like a border if you looked closely. I got to the end of the quilt and found that I was 8 inches short for what I need on the quilting machine. About 6 inches short of the quilt front.<br />
I had one small piece of fabric left. I cut it into 4 pieces each about 8 inches long and 27 inches wide. That was all the fabric I had. I sewed the strips together on the sewing machine and got a piece then that was 8 inches by 108 inches.<br />
I then had to sew the 108 inch long strip onto the backing that was on the quilting machine by hand.<br />
I sewed the tiniest stitches I could. Knotted it every couple of feet. And had very sore fingers by the time I was done. Thus the name Sunflowers from Hell. Thankfully there was enough fabric to finish the backing.<br />
So much for my nice design of making the sunflower border having it's quilting look like it was making a border. I quilted as close to the edge as I could and was ready to chop most of the border off, but mom talked me out of it. I'm glad she did.<br />
I actually love this quilt and should give it a nice name. LOL.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;">I would never have bought this pattern for the dress that is pictured on it.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: small;">Well with the blue dress in mind, I took my granddaughter shopping for fabric. This is what I made for her out of the above pattern.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It is hard to see from the picture, but the printed fabrics have swirls or snowflakes. The white has white swirls.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_8lauGX__s0/VG9_KQnrbBI/AAAAAAAAC0E/4x_UmyCaSYg/s1600/20141121_100316.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_8lauGX__s0/VG9_KQnrbBI/AAAAAAAAC0E/4x_UmyCaSYg/s1600/20141121_100316.jpg" height="320" width="259" /></a></div>
Here it is finally finished. It is backed with pale yellow flannel and mom quilted it for me.<br />
<br />

Here is a closeup of the quilting.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KV7UNqzmlxw/VG9rLQhdvDI/AAAAAAAACxg/wziuSWeVjCM/s1600/20141121_075738.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KV7UNqzmlxw/VG9rLQhdvDI/AAAAAAAACxg/wziuSWeVjCM/s1600/20141121_075738.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The striped ones were made first.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UWSZ86hp84g/VG9qlzJ8qeI/AAAAAAAACxQ/XX5Wd2cFGCo/s1600/20141102_141239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UWSZ86hp84g/VG9qlzJ8qeI/AAAAAAAACxQ/XX5Wd2cFGCo/s1600/20141102_141239.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I looked at a paper shopping bag to get the size. I measured the height and around the entire top of the open bag and the rectangle bottom. The fabric I had wasn't going to make the same size bags, so I had to make my own size.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SE8-THBgsOk/VG9rEbpMdjI/AAAAAAAACxY/XkMGxDhFNOY/s1600/20141102_141115.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SE8-THBgsOk/VG9rEbpMdjI/AAAAAAAACxY/XkMGxDhFNOY/s1600/20141102_141115.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I wanted to make the best use of my fabric so I cut it into four equal pieces. The fabric in the picture is two layers thick. It was a little longer than the paper bag and a little wider. I had to cut off a section of the bottom of the fabric in the picture above to make the bottom of the bag. I decided to cut off 5 inches. I then measured what was left and came up with 32 1/2 inches. Take away 1/2 inch for the seam allowance and I now had 32 inches for make a bag with. Since the 5 inch strip was going to be used for the bottom of the bag I now needed to figure out the bag width. Two bottom widths equals ten inches. 2 x 5 = 10. 32 - 10 = 22. 22 divided by 2 = 11. Thus my bag bottom had to be 5 by 11. Confusing I know. I should have taken pictures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GkWoOIUPM0Q/VG9v_ACB8RI/AAAAAAAACxw/jVi7PdgJqec/s1600/20141121_090001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GkWoOIUPM0Q/VG9v_ACB8RI/AAAAAAAACxw/jVi7PdgJqec/s1600/20141121_090001.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I just turned the bag inside out and took this picture. The bottom of the bag is two layers thick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DDzSd6Y_6HA/VG9xWQy6g3I/AAAAAAAACyA/cm7PEWg7bSI/s1600/20141121_090520.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DDzSd6Y_6HA/VG9xWQy6g3I/AAAAAAAACyA/cm7PEWg7bSI/s1600/20141121_090520.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I folded the top down one inch then down another inch and top stitched near the bottom fold. Then I cut straps 24 inches long and placed them where I thought they looked good and would be easy for carrying. Hubby wanted them long, so the straps are longer than I was originally going to make them. I folded the raw edges of the straps under before sewing and sewed them to the bag using a box shape with an X in the middle to secure it. I sewed the straps on and hemmed the top of the bag from the inside of the bag. I used dark blue on top and off white in the bobbin when sewing, so I took the picture from the outside so it would show better. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iIeOxip2R1o/VG90qot6efI/AAAAAAAACyM/ZxJcqosX-fw/s1600/20141121_091603.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iIeOxip2R1o/VG90qot6efI/AAAAAAAACyM/ZxJcqosX-fw/s1600/20141121_091603.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The solid blue bags I made the same way as The Kid Tote bags which you can find <a href="http://sewitshowit.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2014-07-02T16:26:00-07:00&max-results=7" target="_blank">here</a>. I just made a wider bottom, cut off the extra fabric and did extra stitching to secure the corner edge. This bag is 5 inches wide across the bottom. The straps are 27 inches long.<br />
<br />
I wondered into Savers on Veteran's Day and found that most everything was half price. There I found this 1 1/2 yard piece of fabric on sale for $1.50 and knew I had to get it for some wide bags to go with my newly made tall skinny bags.<br />
<br />
I have enough fabric for one more bag, but not enough strapping for the handles. I took what was left of the strapping and divided into 4 pieces for the handles. Six pieces made the handles too short.<br />
<br />
As soon as I go buy some more strapping I will have 7 shopping bags. And I have used up sewing materials that have been sitting around for years.<br />
<br />
Here are two other things I have made in the past from the striped fabric. I am guessing they were both made at least 5 years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UJ-h3DtdjDU/VG93SxIkWvI/AAAAAAAACyU/Qf8790c_C5g/s1600/20141121_075809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UJ-h3DtdjDU/VG93SxIkWvI/AAAAAAAACyU/Qf8790c_C5g/s1600/20141121_075809.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
This is a bag that hold the car DVD players. The original was vinyl and didn't last long. I made a pattern off of it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VQzShk-FwAU/VG93Vm_uV8I/AAAAAAAACyc/vWJbJJ4QjK8/s1600/20141121_075833.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VQzShk-FwAU/VG93Vm_uV8I/AAAAAAAACyc/vWJbJJ4QjK8/s1600/20141121_075833.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the inside of the bag with the compartments. I saved the cardboard in the old bag to put inside the dividers of the new bag.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7lbJJCS0DU/VG93Wk5tkHI/AAAAAAAACyk/T805v8bzJ9w/s1600/20141121_075847.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7lbJJCS0DU/VG93Wk5tkHI/AAAAAAAACyk/T805v8bzJ9w/s1600/20141121_075847.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the front view. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8FlQTKMKUbM/VG93ahauvsI/AAAAAAAACy0/IOuKvokaXvc/s1600/20141121_080102.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8FlQTKMKUbM/VG93ahauvsI/AAAAAAAACy0/IOuKvokaXvc/s1600/20141121_080102.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Another item is my clothespin bag. The hanger inside has broken on one side, but it still works. There are pockets on both sides. I made this bag from what I remembered my grandmothers bag looking like.<br />
If anyone really wants to make one I can write out instructions.<br />

I took forever it seems like to make. The small squares are 1 1/4" and the large squares are 3 3/4".<br />
My favorite quilts are the ones made from tiny pieces, but I don't like to take the time to make them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yyn_eQeT57I/U8iZZBilXlI/AAAAAAAACgs/2_rtb15FtKk/s1600/20140717_191403.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yyn_eQeT57I/U8iZZBilXlI/AAAAAAAACgs/2_rtb15FtKk/s1600/20140717_191403.jpg" height="287" width="320" /></a></div>
This quilt is 75" x 86". It is a little wider and a little shorter than the standard twin bed size.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O3nE7e7cCWg/U8iZd3cbT4I/AAAAAAAACg0/FVj8KF2M1Vg/s1600/20140717_191432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O3nE7e7cCWg/U8iZd3cbT4I/AAAAAAAACg0/FVj8KF2M1Vg/s1600/20140717_191432.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
A closer look at this quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Bvxy3V4wnvA/U8iZgZ4Yz_I/AAAAAAAACg8/PHSQxjSB3Y4/s1600/20140717_191630.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Bvxy3V4wnvA/U8iZgZ4Yz_I/AAAAAAAACg8/PHSQxjSB3Y4/s1600/20140717_191630.jpg" height="305" width="320" /></a></div>
The backing is hand dyed fabric. This was the fabric that started this quilt. I quilted this with an extra large stippling stitch. I didn't want the quilting to take away from the design and it didn't. I rolled the backing to the front for the binding and mitered the corners. It is quilted in a peach colored thread.<br />
<br />
I will take this quilt to my mom's house to sell at her fall craft fair.<br />

You can see by the camera date how long ago I made this quilt. All it does is sit in a tote with a bunch more. I thought one of the grandsons would want it, but they are into hunting and this is fishing fabric.<br />
This quilt has a tan backing with the backing rolled to the front to make the binding.<br />
<br />
Here is another fishing quilt that is twin bed size. The picture was taken the same day and they were both made around the same time.<br />
This quilt has a forest green backing with the backing rolled to the front to make the binding.<br />

I have made five of these now. Four queen size and one twin bed size.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p-5NSwfnll8/U8iPqmmNMoI/AAAAAAAACf0/-wTCjVgYrSI/s1600/20140717_191954.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p-5NSwfnll8/U8iPqmmNMoI/AAAAAAAACf0/-wTCjVgYrSI/s1600/20140717_191954.jpg" height="296" width="320" /></a></div>
This quilt is 84" x 94" It is a little smaller than a queen size
quilt. I have two quilts from this pattern on my queen bed and they fit
perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kp0RrBfb7Pg/U8iProoR6xI/AAAAAAAACf8/GUkzoaV7L2g/s1600/20140717_192114.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kp0RrBfb7Pg/U8iProoR6xI/AAAAAAAACf8/GUkzoaV7L2g/s1600/20140717_192114.jpg" height="320" width="244" /></a></div>

The back is stippled with a large stipple stitch and no other design on the borders. I did this one on my mom's quilting machine and it is the only stitch I know how to do.<br />
This is stitched with blue thread on the back and a golden yellow thread on the front.<br />
<br />

I collected western prints when I found them. I had the animal skin prints from a collection of fat quarters I bought several years ago. I almost always roll the backing to the front to bind my quilts. This one is done that way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the only boot that doesn't have a matching hat in the quilt. Because of the odd number of blocks one hat had to be left out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I9YRVvkCzxI/U8h9604TxSI/AAAAAAAACec/u8SFwck7PdA/s1600/20140717_185012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I9YRVvkCzxI/U8h9604TxSI/AAAAAAAACec/u8SFwck7PdA/s1600/20140717_185012.jpg" height="290" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the matching hat square. Haven't decided what to do with it. Pillow, quilt label?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the fabric on the quilt back. It is not on the front of the quilt except as the binding edge.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GB2BBIDIt-4/U7SOHugikmI/AAAAAAAACOg/qvs4JNG5GTQ/s1600/20140701_120155.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GB2BBIDIt-4/U7SOHugikmI/AAAAAAAACOg/qvs4JNG5GTQ/s1600/20140701_120155.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I love the shirt, but have never worn it, because I hate the sleeves. I love 3/4 length sleeves, but they just don't look right on this shirt when it is on me. I didn't try it on when I bought it. I was only about 3 or 4 dollars from a thrift store and I was sure it was perfect as it was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ajfO2e6g60I/U7SPeto0hZI/AAAAAAAACPQ/c9ZAth6UAeA/s1600/20140701_120624.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ajfO2e6g60I/U7SPeto0hZI/AAAAAAAACPQ/c9ZAth6UAeA/s1600/20140701_120624.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I cut 5 1/2 inches off of each sleeve. Then I used one cut off piece to practice a rolled edge hem on my serger until I got the same thread thickness and width as the original hem.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-drS3xVRQSy4/U7SOQELQWLI/AAAAAAAACO8/97zvzRK44qA/s1600/20140701_125904.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-drS3xVRQSy4/U7SOQELQWLI/AAAAAAAACO8/97zvzRK44qA/s1600/20140701_125904.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The sleeve length now ends just above my elbow. I took the bottom of the original sleeves and cut them 1 1/2 inches inches wide and serged the new cut edge. I cut another piece 2 1/2 inches wide for a headband. I did not serge that piece. Serging takes away some of the stretch, which is fine for the ponytail holders, but not for a headband that needs a lot of stretch when it is from a sleeve.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-799kQO3ymlQ/U7SOSV7XoUI/AAAAAAAACPE/mcgaEhDQEHg/s1600/20140701_125937.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-799kQO3ymlQ/U7SOSV7XoUI/AAAAAAAACPE/mcgaEhDQEHg/s1600/20140701_125937.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The finished hair accessories. They have been tried on. Because of the material they spring back into shape and the headband doesn't ravel.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f2bdU15Hrr4/Ueg1BpE3vbI/AAAAAAAABsQ/QbzZqU5QkSg/s1600/20130718_111041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-f2bdU15Hrr4/Ueg1BpE3vbI/AAAAAAAABsQ/QbzZqU5QkSg/s320/20130718_111041.jpg" width="286" /></a></div>
<span id="goog_1476468605"></span><span id="goog_1476468606"></span>Here is the finished twin bed sized quilt top. I was planning to make the blue border look like a book (jar) case. The blue I finally found to match a few days ago has too much stretch to it and so I decided to use the border I did, because it has almost no stretch and was a little bit heavier cotton.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I6S_ClhhZo8/Ueg1REVhguI/AAAAAAAABsc/9jbXkxBkAM8/s1600/20130718_111414.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I6S_ClhhZo8/Ueg1REVhguI/AAAAAAAABsc/9jbXkxBkAM8/s320/20130718_111414.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The fabric that started this idea is the outside border and the bug fabric between the rows of jars. It was one piece of fabric that alternated strips of the yellow bug and flower design' then the crawling bugs design. I bought it about 6 years ago and finally my mom and sister found the last 7 bug fabrics for me a few months ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iwECPY7inFc/Ueg28B9g8ZI/AAAAAAAABso/-x7hrUSuGGY/s1600/20130718_111701.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iwECPY7inFc/Ueg28B9g8ZI/AAAAAAAABso/-x7hrUSuGGY/s320/20130718_111701.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I found many jar pattern, but nothing that was just what I wanted, so I drew my own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PqH-nDHEiQk/Ueg3XpT_A1I/AAAAAAAABsw/boExbPUW6tQ/s1600/20130625_125340.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PqH-nDHEiQk/Ueg3XpT_A1I/AAAAAAAABsw/boExbPUW6tQ/s320/20130625_125340.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The most time consuming part was folding all of the 1 1/2" squares and pressing them. Sew them to the bug fabric just a tiny bit to the right of the fold line. Look closely and you can see the red line of the foot on the crease and the needle just to the right. Pressing the corner to the top uses a tiny bit of fabric to roll over the seam and if you stitch right on the crease the new triangle piece won't come to the outer corner. Trim off the extra fabric in the corner so you have 1/4 inch seam.<br />
<br />
Sew the four corners on. Then the long sides. Next sew the jar lid and the piece above the lid together. Sew on the two background pieces to the lid sides. The next time consuming part was pinning the lid to the top of the bottle so the seams matched perfectly (well almost).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ye-LmjhwGAM/Ueg7G4-GVZI/AAAAAAAABtA/TKvWlu2X1rk/s1600/cropped+jar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ye-LmjhwGAM/Ueg7G4-GVZI/AAAAAAAABtA/TKvWlu2X1rk/s320/cropped+jar.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Finding a jar lid fabric that I liked took a lot of time also. I used muslin as the background fabric and sewed everything with a scant 1/4" seam.<br />
I'm happy with the results and hope to have it quilted this month using my mom's quilting machine.<br />

They are really easy to make.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0IiEDuKKIxQ/UeXivv85tHI/AAAAAAAABp8/MRIf2YUmQFE/s1600/20130716_153119.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0IiEDuKKIxQ/UeXivv85tHI/AAAAAAAABp8/MRIf2YUmQFE/s320/20130716_153119.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here are the fabrics. 1/2 yard for each bag. Cut the top and bottom edges so they are even.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aW-GU9CA2P4/UeXlpTlpK0I/AAAAAAAABrs/MXpq1FplL8A/s1600/20130716_153146.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aW-GU9CA2P4/UeXlpTlpK0I/AAAAAAAABrs/MXpq1FplL8A/s320/20130716_153146.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Cut a strip of fabric 3" wide and the entire width of the fabric for the handles. Use the remaining piece of fabric and cut off the selvage edges and then a piece about 26" wide. Folded in half will be a piece of fabric about 13" wide and 14 1/2" long.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y9Fh_4wIfek/UeXi14GIxtI/AAAAAAAABqI/B1iGa68GF0E/s1600/20130716_153227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y9Fh_4wIfek/UeXi14GIxtI/AAAAAAAABqI/B1iGa68GF0E/s320/20130716_153227.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Sewing shows up better on this fabric. Stitch the side and bottom. I used the edge of the presser foot as a guide, so the seam is about 3/8" wide. Zigzag the seam allowance to help with raveling. Use a short stitch length. I used 1.0.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--qAGmkLMpoE/UeXjHSxRBTI/AAAAAAAABqo/qe5Y64VvCA0/s1600/20130716_154114.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--qAGmkLMpoE/UeXjHSxRBTI/AAAAAAAABqo/qe5Y64VvCA0/s320/20130716_154114.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Match the side seam to the bottom seam on one side and the side fold line to the bottom seam line on the other side. Stitch across the corner to make a bag with a box corner. I used the stitch plate as the guide to line the point to for sewing and I alined the cut edge of the fabric with the front edge of the stitch plate so to get the correct angle to sew.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Fxz8KiM9aM/UeXnpZlqTdI/AAAAAAAABr8/flBHnnQglqk/s1600/20130716_154204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Fxz8KiM9aM/UeXnpZlqTdI/AAAAAAAABr8/flBHnnQglqk/s320/20130716_154204.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Stitch across this line several times to reinforce the corner. No need to trim off the excess fabric. If you do remove it then zigzag that edge also.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G1tru-VCndg/UeXjpMPHk8I/AAAAAAAABrY/wJ1TfpAvvoc/s1600/20130716_154347.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G1tru-VCndg/UeXjpMPHk8I/AAAAAAAABrY/wJ1TfpAvvoc/s320/20130716_154347.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the finished corner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0QUhDTk93j0/UeXjPYyEuLI/AAAAAAAABqw/LzUxtilDEis/s1600/20130716_160533.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0QUhDTk93j0/UeXjPYyEuLI/AAAAAAAABqw/LzUxtilDEis/s320/20130716_160533.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Fold the top edge down 1/4" and then down again 1". Press folds in place. No need to stitch yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tcbc5s041us/UeXi_H7EwrI/AAAAAAAABqY/Zdk8TEvW-xA/s1600/20130716_153414.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tcbc5s041us/UeXi_H7EwrI/AAAAAAAABqY/Zdk8TEvW-xA/s320/20130716_153414.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Remove the selvage edges from the 3" wide strip of fabric and cut it in half. You will now have two pieces for the handles that are about 3" X 22".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--4xVtBjAm6c/UeXjasygk1I/AAAAAAAABq4/lid3-n6hu3w/s1600/20130716_155256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--4xVtBjAm6c/UeXjasygk1I/AAAAAAAABq4/lid3-n6hu3w/s320/20130716_155256.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Fold the handles in half lengthwise and stitch along one short edge and the long edge. Clip the corner for easier turning. Use your favorite method to turn right side out and press. Fold about 1/4 " of the other short edge to the inside of the tube of fabric and press again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1PoAV9myqvM/UeXjbBPUrVI/AAAAAAAABrA/D9cztzP8oUY/s1600/20130716_160652.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1PoAV9myqvM/UeXjbBPUrVI/AAAAAAAABrA/D9cztzP8oUY/s320/20130716_160652.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Measure 4" in from each side and place the enter of the handle at that point. Match the end of each handle to the fold line. The handles from the two sides of the bag should match perfectly behind each other.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H6bqNu6mu4Y/UeXjcttBCRI/AAAAAAAABrI/7aWMwR-xldY/s1600/20130716_161510.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H6bqNu6mu4Y/UeXjcttBCRI/AAAAAAAABrI/7aWMwR-xldY/s320/20130716_161510.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Start stitching from the side seam. When you get to the handle, stitch across the bottom, up the side, back across just below the top of the bag, down the other side and across the bottom again. Handles will be sewn on and the top edge hemmed when you get back to the side seam.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RsYrBBMs2hk/UeXjgqhbwMI/AAAAAAAABrQ/nudenm_5pMA/s1600/20130716_170501.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RsYrBBMs2hk/UeXjgqhbwMI/AAAAAAAABrQ/nudenm_5pMA/s320/20130716_170501.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Here are the finished bags. Now the grandkids and carry their own snacks, water bottles, color books, crayons, and whatever else I pack for them each Sunday. I think it took longer to blog about these bags then it did to make them.<br />

To me for a more feminine shirt, the cap of the sleeve (where the sleeve and shoulder seam meet) should be at the shoulder and not down your arm a ways.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J5IEPiZsKdo/UeWJutSdDkI/AAAAAAAABoU/508Hn5dN4q4/s1600/DCP_4211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J5IEPiZsKdo/UeWJutSdDkI/AAAAAAAABoU/508Hn5dN4q4/s320/DCP_4211.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span id="goog_646573322"></span><span id="goog_646573323"></span>Turn the shirt inside out. Press the sleeve flat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gj897yK53sg/UeWJ-Z2MaNI/AAAAAAAABoc/sLPaTiKJWRA/s1600/DCP_4212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gj897yK53sg/UeWJ-Z2MaNI/AAAAAAAABoc/sLPaTiKJWRA/s320/DCP_4212.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Fold some pattern making paper or whatever you can see somewhat see through and trace the sleeve. Match the pattern fold line and the sleeve fold line together. I left 1 1/2" at the bottom of the sleeve pattern for a hem allowance if needed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wEO5hvXYk_c/UeWKIJqk1tI/AAAAAAAABos/tSwE5NrZ080/s1600/DCP_4213.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wEO5hvXYk_c/UeWKIJqk1tI/AAAAAAAABos/tSwE5NrZ080/s320/DCP_4213.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Add 1/4" seam allowance to the underarm an sleeve top. The bottom line is the hem line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kI_pLIYGaYY/UeWKTZqbM6I/AAAAAAAABo0/yv6Ncq0NgUw/s1600/DCP_4221.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kI_pLIYGaYY/UeWKTZqbM6I/AAAAAAAABo0/yv6Ncq0NgUw/s320/DCP_4221.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The body of the shirt is easier to do if you lay it on the pattern making paper and trace around it. Make sure the pattern making paper is folded in half for this too. Match the fold lines of paper and shirt together. My T-Shirt was slightly out of shape at the shoulder. Just make sure you draw a straight shoulder line from neck to sleeve top. Add 1/4 inch seam allowance if needed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oD5hUUf8qjU/UeWKbX4yKRI/AAAAAAAABpA/NZswoIT9uHs/s1600/DCP_4217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oD5hUUf8qjU/UeWKbX4yKRI/AAAAAAAABpA/NZswoIT9uHs/s320/DCP_4217.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Fold back all but the one layer of the neckline front and trace along that line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f_yKxYZyRXc/UeWKGxjlz9I/AAAAAAAABok/wBhHSbMbMU8/s1600/DCP_4215.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f_yKxYZyRXc/UeWKGxjlz9I/AAAAAAAABok/wBhHSbMbMU8/s320/DCP_4215.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Cut out your pattern and lay it on the shirt you want to remake. I did unstitch part of the sleeve at the top, so the new pattern would fit. Cut it out. This sleeve was slightly wider, so I decided to just ease the extra fabric into the shirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A13TqP_9VPo/UeWKbIkeRAI/AAAAAAAABpE/S_ChHN9tMCo/s1600/DCP_4223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A13TqP_9VPo/UeWKbIkeRAI/AAAAAAAABpE/S_ChHN9tMCo/s320/DCP_4223.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now lay the body of the shirt pattern on the body of the T-Shirt. I find the unixex T-Shirts to be long too. Match the hem line of the pattern with the hem line of the shirt. Pin to one half of the shirt and cut it out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1JwEOYCukNU/UeWKhdY-49I/AAAAAAAABpM/XydcHKaaVAw/s1600/DCP_4226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1JwEOYCukNU/UeWKhdY-49I/AAAAAAAABpM/XydcHKaaVAw/s320/DCP_4226.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Open the shirt so the front neckline can be cut. Carefully cut along the line you drew for the front of the shirt. BE CAREFUL TO CUT ONLY THE FRONT LAYER OF THE SHIRT. Save the piece that is the back of the shirt cutting line for future remakes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g9-FEBpwM1k/UeWKs1qjlxI/AAAAAAAABpk/M4FiBxNaETw/s1600/DCP_4227.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g9-FEBpwM1k/UeWKs1qjlxI/AAAAAAAABpk/M4FiBxNaETw/s320/DCP_4227.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Sew the new shoulder seams back together. If your shirt was really big and you had to cut the sides then sew them together too. Fold the neckline in half matching shoulder seams and all neck edges. Mark the center front and center back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hWh6xeobu44/UeWKnTft1HI/AAAAAAAABpU/100bzF_vbAg/s1600/DCP_4229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hWh6xeobu44/UeWKnTft1HI/AAAAAAAABpU/100bzF_vbAg/s320/DCP_4229.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Now match the center front and back marks and and all the neck edges and mark at the fold lines. These fold points will not be at the shoulder seams since the neck opening is lower in the front.<br />
<br />
No picture for the next steps. Sorry I forgot to take them. Unstitch the neck ribbing and slightly stretch it. Fold it in half at the seam line and mark it at the two folded edges. Now refold with the marks together and mark the new fold lines. You are actually dividing the ribbing into 4 even sections. Now match each of the four ribbing marks with the four shirt neckline marks. Make sure the seam in the ribbing is at the center back mark of the neck. The ribbing should be a little smaller. Sew the ribbing on with 1/4" seams. The ribbing should be on top. Stretch between pins when sewing. If the ribbing does not stretch enough it will flop down instead of stand up on the shirt. Ribbing should never be larger than 3/4 of the neck opening.<br />

Sorry I forgot to take pictures. Please let me know if my directions don't make sense. I will make some samples if needed.<br />

This is a twin bed size that is going to be for my granddaughter.<br />
I thought I took pictures of how to make it, but I guess I didn't.<br />
So here are the directions:<br />
Everything was pieced onto foundation fabric. I bought a queen size sheet from the thrift store and cut it into my foundation pieces.<br />
The squares were cut 12 1/2" X 12 1/2". The strips between the squares were cut 3 1/2" wide and the width of the sheet. All seams are 1/4"<br />
Fold the squares into a triangle and press the fold line. This is used as a guide. Lay a piece of fabric on one corner with the crease in it and center the crease below the corner fabric. Add the next strip with right sides together and sew. The strips I used are not all the same width on both ends of that strip of fabric. If you look closely you will see how the angle slightly changes. Some strips are pieced before sewing to the foundation fabric also. After the foundation square is covered turn it over and trim off all excess fabric.<br />
Piece the 3 1/2" strips of fabric the same way (no crease line needed). Just be sure to change the angle of the strips every so often and piece some little pieces together before sewing to the foundation strip.<br />
Cut the long strip into as many 12 1/2" strips as needed and sew them to the squares. Add the long strips that connect each row. Sew the foundation strips together if needed before adding the scraps.<br />
<br />
<b>The following pictures are from a different project, but the concept is the same.</b><br />

Flip the strip over and press. Continue until all strips are added. Don't skip the pressing. This is where my TV tray pressing board came in very handy.<br />

The diapers have the soft side of the Velcro all across the front. Little pieces are on the back corners. This will make them easier for the kids to use. Not thrilled with the pattern and will probably make some changes to it. I searched all pattern books and the internet for a pattern and finally found a very old one in my pattern box.<br />
